What it is
Deliverability is whether your email reaches the inbox, lands in spam, or gets blocked. It is not the same as being sent. Inbox providers decide where your mail goes based on a handful of signals, and getting them right is what turns a send into a read.
1. Authentication
SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are standards that prove your emails genuinely come from you and have not been spoofed. Setting them up is the foundation: without authentication, inbox providers treat your mail with suspicion no matter how good it is.
2. Sending reputation
Providers score the reputation of the domain and address you send from. New senders should warm up gradually rather than blasting a big list on day one, so reputation builds instead of tripping spam filters.
3. List hygiene
Emailing invalid addresses or people who never open drags down your reputation. Suppress bounces and unsubscribes automatically, and hold back or sunset contacts who have not engaged in a long time. A smaller, engaged list beats a big, stale one.
4. Engagement
Opens, clicks, and replies tell providers people want your mail; spam complaints and deletes tell them the opposite. This is whysegmentationmatters for deliverability, not just conversion: relevant email to the right people keeps engagement high.
